The VES Vocabulary (W2)
Connecting personal contribution

VES (short for Value Exchange System) is an enterprise business modelling and diagnostic tool for people at any level in an organization to co-create needed change for growth and success.

VES uses a short vocabulary, VESvocab, consisting of Nouns described by Adjectives or Type, and Verbs described by Adverbs - entities typically found in most languages. The basic list of words is shown in VESvocab - 1.

For example, a Participant is a combination of a Person (or many people in a group such as an Enterprise) and a Role. The inclusion of both is important and a hidden key to enabling successful change / transformation initiatives. We explain the significance of this in a video here prepared for a past workshop. Hopefully, the inadequacy of conventional job titles will be apparent.

A Deliverable is described as either Tangible or Intangible, as are a Role and an Asset.

The actions are the verbs:-
Value Transacting shown black is either Formal or Informal.
People Interacting in red can be performed and experienced at different levels, from coercion to collaboration; see here in H5 3).

An additional list of nouns is used to provide more detail of organizational configurations and performance VESvocab - 2.

For example, the Terrain is described here in W3, and innovation risk challenges associated with co-inventing are highlighted here in H5 2), which a Value Blueprint incorporates.

Referring to VESvocab 3 below:-

Deliverables are conveyed by Participants transacting formally or informally between themselves using a mechanism that in VES can range from an email to an oil tanker! Make a clear distinction in the diagram between the two types of transacting; formal or informal.

The deliverables are either tangible or intangible, with the latter hugely underestimated in importance.

Superimposed on this is how people interact behaviourally with each other - a feature introduced by incorporating insights from We Space Theory.

(a) This immediately distinguishes VES from conventional value streams.
